Keeping Your Mattress Clean: A How-To Guide

Last updated 6 years ago

Caring for your mattress is an easy way to extend its life. When you find a mattress you love, you want to keep it for as long as possible. Follow these cleaning tips to enjoy the feel of your new mattress for many years to come:

Get a Mattress Cover

Mattress covers catch dirt, dust, sweat, pet dander, and other particles that can find their way to the surface of your bed. Simply adding a mattress cover underneath your bedding will keep your mattress fresher and make it easier to clean.

Use the Vacuum

A large part of cleaning your mattress is remembering to vacuum. Try to use the upholstery attachment every three months to suck up dust, dander, hair, and other particles. You can vacuum when you flip the mattress to make it easy to remember to do the task. Caring for the mattress will keep it in top condition so you can continue to get great sleep.

Do Some Deep Cleaning

You can use upholstery shampoo or a mixture of water and a gentle detergent to give the mattress a more thorough cleaning. Apply the cleaning solution and wipe it up with a sponge dipped in warm water. Wait until the mattress is fully dry before remaking the bedding.

Blot Up Spills

If something does spill onto your mattress, use a dry cloth to blot up as much as possible. Once you are finished blotting, dab some vinegar onto the affected area and leave it there for at least 10 minutes. Finish the process by applying baking soda and letting it sit on the stain for half a day. Vacuum up the baking soda and wait until the mattress is dry to replace the bedding.
